There is a lie we tell ourselves all the time.
I’ll start tomorrow.
I’ll start looking for a house tomorrow.
I’ll start saving money tomorrow.
I’ll start going to the gym tomorrow.
I’ll eat better tomorrow.
I’ll have that difficult conversation tomorrow.
But here’s the problem…
Tomorrow won’t be any easier.
Chances are, you’re probably not going to wake up tomorrow with more time, more confidence, or more motivation.
That thing you’re avoiding today?
It’ll still be there.
We just imagine that “Tomorrow Me” is somehow going to be better equipped to deal with it.
“Tomorrow William” is apparently a heck of a guy.
He’s disciplined. Motivated. Never tired. Gets everything done.
Unfortunately, when tomorrow arrives…
“Tomorrow William” becomes “Today William”.
…and suddenly he doesn’t feel like doing it either.
I see this constantly in real estate. In fact, it happened just last week.
I got a message from a student who joined MAX months ago.
He paid the money. Started the course. Got about halfway through it.
Attended next to none of our meetings.
And did absolutely nothing with what he’d learned.
Nothing.
That’s incredibly common in this business.
People will spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars because they desperately want something to change…
…and then won’t do the things required to change it.
They buy the course. Watch some videos. Learn some terminology. Maybe join the group.
Then…nothing.
No sellers contacted. No doors knocked. No offers made. No houses bought…
…and eventually tomorrow becomes next week.
Next week becomes next month.
And suddenly six months have disappeared.
Here’s what I liked about the message I received this week:
He admitted it.
No excuses.
He said he was ready to actually start.
Then yesterday he did something he hadn’t been doing.
He showed up in our group and made a post asking for some accountability.
I replied and told him our next call was tomorrow…
…and I expected to see his smiling face on it.
Now we’ll see what happens.
Because saying “I’m starting” isn’t starting.
Starting is starting.
That’s true in real estate.
It’s true with money.
And I’ve certainly learned recently that it’s true with fitness.
There is ALWAYS a reason I could skip the gym today.
Didn’t sleep well. Knee hurts. Busy. Not feeling particularly strong.
I’ll have a better workout tomorrow.
Hey…maybe I just don’t FEEL like going today!
But the mediocre workout I actually do today beats the incredible workout I’m planning to do tomorrow…every. single. time.
It’s the same thing with real estate.
The awkward seller conversation you have today beats the perfect script you’re going to learn tomorrow.
The one door you knock today beats the 100 you’re planning to knock someday.
You don’t need perfect conditions.
You don’t even need to feel ready.
You need to DO something.
Make one call. Pull one list. Knock one door.
Go to the gym.
Have the conversation.
Do the first thing…and do it today.
…and here’s another little trap you don’t want to fall into:
If you’ve been putting something off for six months, don’t waste another six months beating yourself up because you wasted the first six.
That’s just more procrastination.
Yesterday is gone.
Don’t turn being late into being later.
My student can’t get those months back…But he can make today different.
So can you.
What’s the thing you’ve been telling yourself you’ll start “tomorrow”?
Comment below and tell me…
But more importantly…
…before midnight tonight, do the first dang thing required to start it.
Tomorrow, you can pick up from where you left off.
